Bryan + Christie // A New Year’s Eve Wedding in Calgary

It’s hard to sum up Bryan + Christie’s wedding in one word. So i’ll do it in one word and one number: Minus 10

The Limelight Studios crew is used to filming 30+ degrees in the dead of Summer. Winter weddings for us aren’t as often, especially Winter weddings in Calgary! That’s what made Bryan + Christie’s wedding so unique for us. And it did not disappoint.

Despite the chillier weather, it was actually a perfect day. It was sunny and with it brought some pretty stellar backdrops as you’ll see from the river shots in the film.

Venues spanned from The Fairmount Palliser Hotel in downtown Calgary to the character heritage building, The Lougheed House for the ceremony. The night rounded off with an unreal reception at The Glencoe Club to bring in the year 2012. Not a bad way to start it.

Bryan + Christie plus all their crew were such fun to be with. Their photographer Paul McGrath kept the tempo and energy going which shines through in the video. Bryan + Christie assembled a pretty amazing team to create their dream wedding. We were honoured to be a part of it. Take a peek at their wedding day highlights:

Matt + Jenny // V Lounge // Vancouver BC

Matt + Jenny were married in beautiful downtown Vancouver, BC. It was a nice change-up for us at Limelight Studios to be able to shoot some big city landscape, buildings and unique architecture that Yaletown lends itself to. Both Matt + Jenny and their whole wedding party were a blast to hang out with and all involved did a fantastic job in making a perfect wedding day. Bride prep and first look were at the Westin Bayshore Hotel followed by the ceremony and reception at V Lounge by Earl’s Restaurant. These are the highlights from their day.

Gentleman’s Charity Dinner // Trevor Linden

November 17th, 2011 was definitely a great highlight in my life.

For those that know me well, you know that I am one huge Vancouver Canucks fan. I have been since childhood. If you’re a Canucks fan for that long, you would jump at the chance to meet Captain Canuck himself, Trevor Linden.

Predator Ridge sponsored the Gentleman’s Charity Dinner in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters Okanagan. I had the opportunity to be part of the evening in offering our video services. Trevor Linden was the guest speaker for the event. It was great to be part of a good-cause event and a bonus to be able to meet one of my sports heroes. I didn’t wear #16 playing minor hockey for nothing.

He was very kind and gracious to all the fans, taking the time to sign autographs and say hello. A class act. I was sure to take our daughter Piper’s jersey for him to sign. I got the chance to tell him her middle name too: Linden… I think he thought that was cool.

I wanted to share some of the highlights from the evening. It was great to get some of his insight on the game of hockey and he told some pretty funny stories as well. Inspiring Video: The Holstee Manifesto

I found this video today after a tweet from fellow videographer, Ron Dawson. His blog is full of informational videos that keep the conversation going within the industry. Check it out: Dare Dreamer Magazine

The video he shared was very inspiring, the message, the music and the cinematography. I had to share it. It’s called “The Holstee Manifesto”. Full credits are on the YouTube clip’s description so check it out to find the team behind the work. They all did a fantastic job. Chad + Melissa // A Durali Villa Wedding in Vernon

Chad + Melissa’s wedding was a fantastic way to end August 2011. Melissa is a wedding planner herself for Sweet Beginnings, so we’ve worked together on numerous weddings. It was great to see her on the other side of the coin on this day. Their special day took us to beautiful Vernon, BC. As you’ll see in this teaser, Kalamalka Lake made an unreal backdrop for a good portion of the day. If you’re unfamiliar with Kal Lake, I think it’s fair to say that it’s one of the most stunning fresh water lakes in the world. It’s Native American name means ‘lake of many colours’.

After a ‘first look’, the outdoor ceremony took place in Kekuli Bay overlooking Kal Lake. The reception was at Durali Villa which I highly recommend if you’re looking for a venue in Vernon. It was perfect.

After trips to the bar and candy buffet, the night rounded off with the Kinshira Performance Group (fire dancing), Marble Slab ice-cream and lots of dancing. These are the highlights from Chad + Melissa’s day:

Jason + Katie // Canada meets South Africa

One of the best things about living in the Okanagan is that it’s an epicenter for destination weddings. Living here, it’s easy to forget that people come from around the world to get married here. And why wouldn’t they, all we have to do is look around to see why. The majority of the couples we meet are from out-of-town, ranging from Vancouver, Alberta, Ontario, England, Ireland and beyond. Now we can add South Africa to the list.

Jason + Katie were married August 13th, 2011 at Summerhill Pyramid Winery. The reception was held at the Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club. Katie’s roots are from the Okanagan which is where her family still lives. Her travels took her abroad and led her to Jason. The rest is history.

Karen + Terry were married on August 12th, 2011 bringing two families into one. It was an intimate wedding with only close family and friends which set the tone perfectly for their wedding film. Summerhill Winery provided the backdrop for the day which always makes our job easy. From start to finish, Karen + Terry were a pleasure to be with. I wish them all the best into the future. Paperclip Collective is a photography + design studio here in the Okanagan. It is made up of two parts: Janelle (Photographer) and Christina (Designer).

Paperclip wanted a promo film to have for their website just telling a bit about who they are and what they do. I was so impressed with the amount of time, money and thought that was put into making this shoot happen. With all the components in place, my job was easy… show up and film!

I have to say that seeing Janelle’s determination in putting this shoot together is testimony to her business sense. It proved to me that she is certain to have a successful business because she saw the importance of investing in an idea and yourself, a video being an excellent way to market yourself. This approach separates the boys from the men, so to speak. I was thrilled to be part of this day and wish Paperclip Collective further success into the future!

Hoa + Derek // A La Punta Norte Wedding in Summerland, BC

When I first met with Hoa + Derek, I was thrilled to find out the venue: La Punta Norte in Summerland, BC. I’d driven past it dozens of times but never had the chance to film there. It did not disappoint. With it’s ‘southwest’ feeling, it didn’t even feel like we were in Canada. Shooting at new locations is always refreshing and when you mix it in with fun people like Hoa + Derek, it’s a recipe for a gorgeous wedding day.
